To promote excellence in emergency department operations, clinical quality and patient safety through a commitment to:
1. Quality Improvement
Defining and measuring the quality of emergency care is essential for finding areas for clinical and operational improvement, then testing whether those improvements work. Our faculty take part in our department’s quality assurance program, built to ensure excellent patient care by identifying systems and clinical care issues. We share our practices, pathways, systems and standards with colleagues in the interest of a mutual commitment to ED quality and patient safety.
2. Clinical Education
Through our annual certification course and our emergency CME courses, we give emergency clinicians the clinical knowledge and quality assurance practices they need to maintain cutting-edge practice standards and patient-safe EDs.
3. International Collaboration
Research and project collaborations with colleagues from many countries give us access to diverse ideas, practices and quality markers that enrich our research, clinical practice and coursework. We work with international colleagues to raise ED clinical standards through quality improvement. 4. Research
Set within BIDMC’s Department of Emergency Medicine and its Harvard-affiliated residency, the Institute publishes evidence-based research in clinical care and quality assurance that strengthens our practice and our courses. We collaborate with international partners on research into ED quality practices.
